On Sunday 15 June 2008, many Nepalese people living in the Netherlands and Dutch friends of Nepal gathered in Amsterdam to celebrate and to share happiness of the declaration of Nepal as a Federal Democratic Republic and the end of 240 years old monarchy. On this occasion, the Embassy of Nepal in Brussels also presented an attractive program to promote trade and tourism of Nepal. A gathering of a large number of Nepalese and their friends took part in the speeches and presentations and exchanged their views on this day.
The ceremony was auspicated by His Excellency the ambassador of Nepal Mr. Pramesh Kumar Hamal with an opening speech in which he congratulated for this historic achievement of Nepal and thanked to all the organisations for organising this event as well to all the participants. With a brief history of Nepal and the necessity of this political change in Nepal, the ambassador also requested all the Nepalese living abroad to come forward together for the development of new Nepal. Among the other speakers Mr. Tulsi Amgain, president of Nepali Democratic Republic Forum in the Netherlands and Mr. Narayan Acharya, president of Nepali Jan Sampark Samiti in the Netherlands, also congratulated all the Nepalese for the success of Federal Democratic Republic in Nepal.
In the second part of the program, a high quality of project for the promotion of Trade and Tourism for the development of Nepal through slides and videos were presented by the NRN-NL president Mr. Govind Rauniyar, Nepal Development Academy president and honorary PR-Representative for Tourism Mr. Shashi Paudyal and the first secretary at the Embassy of Nepal in Brussels Mr. Durga Prasad Bhandari. The central focus of this promotion program was “Send Home a Friend” which has been recently launched by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Tourism Board and Non-Resident Nepali Association.
At the end of the ceremony, Mr. Kalsang Gurung, General Secretary of Nepal Samaj Nederland expressed a vote of thanks to all the speakers and audiences on behalf of all the organising team. This day long celebration and the promotion program was jointly organised by the Embassy of Nepal for Benelux countries, Non-Resident Nepalese Association-Netherlands, Nepal Development Academy, Nepal Samaj Nederland, Nepali Jan Sampark Samiti Netherlands and Nepali Democratic Republic Forum in the Netherlands. This celebration was concluded with an informal get-together drinks and snacks party as well as with lots of happiness among the participants. Many of the participants expressed that this was a great successful celebration.
