Successful conclusion of Namaste Nepal Program

The National Coordination Council (NCC) of the Non-Resident Nepali Association RNA Netherlands, Nepal Development Academy (NDA) and the Nepal Samaj Netherlands (NSN) jointly organized Namaste Nepal program in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on 12 April 2008 on the eve of Bikram Sambat 2065. The program was sponsored by the Dutch institution HIVOS. His Excellency Ambassador of Nepal for BENELUX countries Mr. Pramesh Kumar Hamal inaugurated the program. Mr. Shashi Paudyal, President of the NDA highlighted the purpose of organizing such program jointly.
The main objectives of this program were to: secure broad support from Nepalese living in The Netherlands and Dutch citizens for Nepal’s development, provide a platform for the representative of organizations working in Nepal to exchange their views and experiences. A wide variety of activities were carried out to best serve the interests of guests: cultural programs, audio slide shows on Nepal, display and sales of Nepali products and a debate session on the topic ‘Recent Political Development in Nepal and its Impact’ were the main attractions of the day.
Ram Babu Nepal, Member of the NRNA International Coordination Council coordinated the debate program. Honorary Consul of Nepal for the Netherlands Mr. Cas de Stoppelaar and Krishna Chandra Prasad, Senior Lecturer in the UNESCO – Institute for Water Education (IHE) made presentations mainly on the genesis of recent uprising of people’s demands and movements in Nepal and the way forward. The Embassy of Nepal in Brussels, Belgium gave a slide and a DVD presentation on the Tourism Potentials in Nepal with the objective of promoting tourism.
Various informative sessions run during the day i.e., on sexual minority in Nepal, development and co-operation, voluntary work in Nepal and the projection of documentary films covering different facets of Nepali life attracted a lot of audience. The visitors enjoyed the typical Nepalese dinner followed by a disco evening to wrap up this memorable day.
A Project Coordination Committee comprising the representatives of NRNA-NCC NL, NDA and NSN was set-up to organize this program. Govind Rauniyar and Bal Gopal Shrestha, President of NRNA – NCC and NSN respectively thanked for all support provided by both Nepali and Dutch citizen in organizing this program and agreed to work together in the future. Over 450 guests participated in this program.
